There’s no place like home for these eight surf photographers, who
will be showing off the best of the northern beaches in an exhibition in
Manly this weekend.
Alen Zvokelj, from Manly, Alex Marks, of Queenscliff, Ian Bird, of
Dee Why, Jason Corroto, of Bilgola, Jimmy Raper of Avalon, Matt Dunbar,
of Forestville, Murray Fraser, of Manly and Steve Wall, of Mona Vale,
will be displaying their favourite surf and beach landscape pictures
from the northern beaches, as well as shots from far-flung places.Mr Dunbar said it was an independent exhibition and everyone taking part would be displaying four surf pictures of their choice.
He said they all surfed, were part of the surfing community and loved the northern beaches but the photos were all very different.
“It’s a pretty diverse group of photographers,” said Mr Dunbar.

“You have hell men like Steve Wall who swims out on the frontline and shoots some of the gnarliest waves in the world, while guys like Ian Bird and Jason Corroto prefer to take to the skies and shoot the waves from a chopper.
“It definitely isn’t just a surf photo exhibition. There are mind-boggling landscapes from right around the world. From South America to Hawaii to good ole Manly.”

Ian Bird, surf photographer, takes this dramatic shot of crashing waves.
He said it was tricky getting all eight together for the exhibition as most of them travel for their work.
“To get eight surf photographers to be in the country at the same time, the stars have to align, let alone get them all in the same room.
“At one point we had one guy in Ireland, one in Fiji one in Indonesia and one in South America.

“However, it is no lie that the northern beaches is a pretty incredible place to live and shoot.”
The free exhibition, called Hung, will run tomorrow and Sunday at Berrins, next to Barefoot Coffee Traders, East Esplanade from 9am-5pm.
