Michel Bourez is the only Frenchman to have shone this Tuesday in Peniche during the first day of the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal. Placed in the last round 1 series, the Tahitian won his heat against Michael February and Michael Rodrigues on the Supertubos tubular spot. After two unsuccessful attempts, Bourez found a nice and thick tube on the right, noted 6.60. He then took the hit with a small manoeuvring wave (3.87). The Polynesian is directly qualified for Round 3.

It is not at all the case for the other two Frenchmen, Joan Duru and Jérémy Florès. Both have totally missed their series. Against Conner Coffin and Griffin Colapinto, Duru took five waves and only scored 3.17 with his top two scores (1.50 and 1.67). He will surf against Adriano de Souza for a place in the third round.

In the next series, Florès experienced the same scenario against Ian Gouveia and Kolohe Andino. He too took five waves and also came back empty-handed with a tiny 1.80 (0.80 and 1.00), perhaps his poorest heat since he has been on the CT. A second chance will be given to him in Round 2, where he will face Michael February.
