For the first time since his brain injury last winter in Hawaii, Owen Wright is looking like his old self. That is, the blond-locked Aussie looks like a cast member of “Vikings” — because he’s brutally hacking a wave in his newest Instagram post.
“Turned the biggest corner this wk with the head injury. It’s good to be feeling a lot more like myself again. Can’t believe how things change!” says O-dog.
Since a hold down at Pipe took him out of 2015 title contention before the year’s final event, off the 2016 World Tour and mostly out of the lineup, Wright has posted only sparingly in vague terms about his recovery. He let fans know the injury knocked him back more than a few steps — the A.I. Performance Award-winning hard-charger was barely capable of getting to his feet on a shortboard. Apart from a few social media updates about cruising on longboards, Wright hasn’t released any clips or information about his performance surfing until now.
Fellow Rip Curl ripper Matt Wilkinson commented on the post, saying: “you kidding o dawg?!!! You are fucking ripping. I tried to call yesterday but it didn’t go through .”
Pretty much speaking for us all, another commenter put it this way:
“Fuck yeah, man!! This is awesome!! Good to see you ripping again@owright !! 💪🏻👏🏻🙌🏻 “
Though his form looks good, there’s been word as yet of Wright’s return to the Dream Tour.
