David Cameron was seen swimming in reportedly sewage-riddled water recently.
The former PM was seen frolicking in the waters on Polzeath beach in Cornwall the week.
However one local has claimed that the beach, thought to be a favourite of the Cameron family, was at the time polluted by untreated human waste which was released into the sea near the beach.
Local surfer Seamus McCoy was in the water at Polzeath beach on Tuesday when he spotted Cameron and two of his children swimming.
Seamus said: ‘He was in the water for about an hour with his children. His two bodyguards were close by as well.’
However not long after Mr Cameron and his children left the beach the lifeguards put up warning flags and signs informing beach goers of sewage pollution that was making the water unsafe to swim in.
‘The water was full of people, but pretty much everyone got out as soon as they saw the signs,’ said Seamus.
Seamus says this isn’t the first time sewage pollution has ruined the beautiful swimming spot.
He said: ‘There’s a huge risk David would of been exposed to anything from a small health risk such as skin, eye, ear, or throat infections to much more serious conditions such as E coli or hepatitis which can be present within raw sewage.
‘It can also contain a bacteria resistance to antibiotics which once in the gut means you could have a life-long rejection to them.’
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has been approached for comment.
