Just off the westernmost coast of Africa lies Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands. It is an incredibly beautiful place created by volcanic eruptions. The people who live there base their lives around the ocean, and although the Canaries aren’t normally a place one first thinks of when they think about a surf trip, there are a lot of waves there. And with the video above, a new big wave spot makes its way onto the map. Naxto Gonzalez, Jon Aspuru, a few others found a wave on an outer reef that puts them all to the test.
“This time the swell was different. When the wind switched, I was able to see a wave that I never heard of,” wrote Aspuru. “Now I think people will talk about it.”
