There are some strange things going on in the world of surf. As wave pools become a bonafide possibility for surfing, one can be reasonably sure we’re watching the evolution of a sport, much like parks did for snowboarding.
Citywave has been around for a while now. Much like a river wave, it’s stationary. Modeled after the wave in the Eisbach river in Munich, Germany, it’s a man-made wave that calls the Munich Airport home. Citywave started an event there back in 2011 called Surf & Style. Weirdly enough, there’s a pretty dedicated surfing community in Munich, mainly because of the Eisbach. But the event is a big draw for a whole bunch of surf stoked people, and surf stoke is a good thing to have.
