Wednesday February 10, 2016 will go down in the history books as one of the most memorable days in big-wave surfing. Not only for the legendary sessions that went down atWaimea and Jaws, but it will forever be the day big-wave athletes and fans alike were blue balled when the Bay called the day at the 31st Annual Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau Big-Wave Invitational. But as devastated as we all were, Wednesday wasn’t a complete letdown.
Upon receiving the unsettling news, many of surfing’s big-wave elite members jumped on a plane bound for Maui, where massive mountains of water were dumping onto the reef at Pe’ahi with pristine conditions. But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows down at Jaws. In fact, the wave at the 1:40 marker sent Albee Layer to the hospital. Still, there were some incredible moments. Here is the madness that ensued via an aerial drone.
