Sport is defined by moments. We remember specific sports’ history through incidences of valor, athleticism, and beating the odds. When aliens land on earth and we have to describe our pastimes to them, we will do so through these legendary landmarks. Michael Jordan shattering the backboard. Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier. Muhammad Ali playing rope-a-dope only to come back in the eighth round and knock down an exhausted George Foreman.
Robbie Maddison’s recent stunt out at Teahupoo may not have been on the level of the moments mentioned above, but it was definitely a game-changer. It redefined what could be done on a motorcycle. And like all groundbreaking acts, it didn’t come without controversy. The world erupted with praise and criticism. Everyone had something to say about it. But now that the commotion has died down, it’s Robbie’s turn to share his thoughts on the experience.
