It’s not the first time a surfer has landed a backflip. Gabriel Medina stomped one at Off The Wall and Flynn Novak at Rocky Point.
But it is the first time a backflip (or tweaked out frontside rodeo flip) has been landed successfully at one of the gnarliest reef breaks in the world, Backdoor Pipeline. And caught on film.
Rumour has it, the official footage will come out on John John’s part later in the year. What do you reckon? One of the best airs ever?
