It has long been decided that the South West is the best spot in the UK for surfing. But as a northerner I’m just not buying it.
Think about it, everyone knows about Cornwall and Devon, whereas up north, you’ll probably be the only one stupid enough to put a toe in the North Sea. Which is obviously a good thing.
But that’s just the start of it…

In the north, you get this
Instead of this
Chips n’ gravy is socially acceptable int’ north
And much better than a boring cornish pasty
A post-surf pint is £1.50
Not a fiver
You get proper seaside towns
Not just pretend ones
The northern coastline is actually prettier than the south
Sorry Cornwall, you’re just not doing it for me
Scarborough can have waves like this…
…while Fistral’s getting this
You’ll find places you never knew existed
Whereas every man and his dog knows about Newquay
Plus you’re officially not a pussy
Meanwhile in the south…
Surfing in the north makes you a sex god
