Surfing is, without doubt, one of the most adventurous water sports. Knowing the ocean safety guidelines is a prerequisite of surfing. It ensures that you are safe by the beach, in the sea and enjoy the sport to its fullest.
If your child is learning to surf, you should get him/her ocean safety books, so that along with enjoying the sport, he/she is aware about the do's and don'ts of surfing. Knowing the rules and safety guidelines will allow your child to further enjoy the excitement filled sport while having safety as a primary interest.

There are many surf books available in the market which teaches your child the basics about surfing. But knowing the basics alone is not enough. He/she needs to know about the ocean safety tips as well. In fact, if your child is learning to surf, it is imperative for a parent to be aware about the safety in and around the ocean. This way you can provide life saving knowledge about surfing to your child and prevent any accidents from occurring.

The basic ocean safety tips which you should follow are:
  • Make sure that your child has an adequate swimming level before he/she is in the ocean with the surfboard.
  • Be sure that your child is aware of all the safety guidelines. Enrolling your child in a water safety course, like JR LIFEGUARD PROGRAMS, which are offered in many different cities by the local lifeguards is the best gift you can give yours so that he can enjoy the ocean safely.
  • Never let your children go into the water all alone. Be sure they are accompanied by an experienced surfer or surfing, swimming, or just playing in the ocean near an active lifeguard.
  • Do not ignore the ocean's safety and warning signs and flags.
  • Never let your child go into the ocean when the waves are above his skill level.

Although the above mentioned tips are the basic ocean safety tips, you can find many more useful guidelines and tips, related to surfing, in the children's surfing books and junior lifeguard books.
