Hydrofoiling is one of the weirder fads in the surf world. It’s impossible to deny that it looks fun to try, although they probably won’t ever become anyone’s daily driver.
With the exception of a few people like Kai Lenny and Laird Hamilton, foils aren’t exactly something the average Joe is going to throw in the trunk for a quick surf before work. They are, however, incredible. Using wave energy from beneath the surface, the foil lifts the surfer up and out of the water, making for a smoother ride and the ability to ride an unbroken wave for a really, really long time. Andy Hurdman, Austin Waclo, and Phil Morstad took a J Shapes foil out at Dorado Beach Resort and gave a perfect example of just how amazing hydrofoiling can be.
