Damn nature — you scary! A killer whale teaching its young how to hunt? A killer whale simply having fun? Doesn’t really change anything for us. We’re not feeling very warm and fuzzy after that “encounter” with a sea lion. Taken on the morning of August 15 near Ketchikan, Alaska, the video description reads: “…a sea lion was hiding under our fishing boat because he was being stalked by a killer whale. When we decided to leave the area the whale attacked the sea lion and tossed him 20 feet into the air.”
We don’t want to ruin the suspense for you, but the :50 mark is about when they leave the sea lion to fend for itself. The most important takeaway from this clip? When surfing calving glaciers, or anywhere in Alaska for that matter, and see a sea lion — paddle the other way. And do so doing your darnedest I’m-not-a-sea-lion impression.
