Ain’t it just a charmed life being famous? When everyone’s on your jock, it can afford you some serious privileges – trash a fancy hotel, get free stuff, maybe travel the world a few times. But, apparently, you may also grab the attention of the illustrious Kelly Slater and snag a coveted invite to his mysterious surf ranch. Australian musician Harley Streten, better known by his stage name Flume, had just that opportunity as part of his behind-the-scenes Youtube series Flume Adventures.
This is the first time we’ve gotten a chance to see an average surfer (and I don’t mean that condescendingly, every other video has been of pros) riding the wave. Streten elects for a bodyboard at first to get his feet wet. He positions himself in the barrel on one, and is absolutely screaming along with a huge grin. It looks like an absolute blast. Next, we see him catch a couple on an interesting craft going straight down the line, getting a couple head dips for good measure. More than anything this video reveals that a high performance-minded wave like Kelly’s can still be enjoyed by average folk – maybe that’s understating it, it looks absolutely insane to just go straight and enjoy it.
