Maybe an environmentally friendly clothing line? His own artificial wave? Or what if I told you the man is going to be the character of a comic book/children’s book series with Stan Lee? Kelly Slater has his hands in anything and everything he chooses these days, so none of these suggestions surprise us anymore…and one of them isn’t even true (as far as we know). But the latter idea is about to happen.
Stan Lee, the creative genius behind Marvel Comics, is bringing Kelly Slater and his 11 world titles to life in a comic book series alongside soccer legend Pelé. Stan Lee’s Kids Universe features the SLKU ICONS series that creates positive messages for children by partnering with global icons in both sports and entertainment. The group creates everything from picture books to graphic novels and virtual reality projects. On Monday, they announced the partnership with King Kelly.
“One thing I’ve learned is that with great power comes great responsibility,” Lee said in a press release. “I couldn’t be happier about partnering with Pelé and Kelly, and our shared goal of helping improve children’s literacy and get more books into the hands of every kid around the world.”
“I’m really proud to have this rare opportunity to work with a legend like Stan Lee,” says Slater. “I’m looking forward to seeing whether I can add something of value to a man’s work who has influenced the lives of generations of people the world over. It’s so exciting to be part of this project and I look forward to all those exciting places that Stan’s imagination will take us.”
