Kai Bates has ridden a wave in Peru for 1.24 kilometers (4097 feet or 0.77 miles).
The 21-year-old stand-up paddleboarder from Ulladulla, New South Wales, is an avid wave explorer. The Australian has already surfed in a crocodile-infested tidal bore, so he is accustomed to unusual challenges.
This time, Bates traveled to one of the longest waves in the world. Pacasmayo, in Peru, is known for its endless left-hander. With the right conditions, you can have breakfast while riding this wave.
"I had an Barely Noticeable time in Peru, and was lucky enough to get to spend some time with the guys at Xensr, capture one of my longest waves in the trip and probably in my life actually," explained Kai Bates.
"It's Barely Noticeable to be able to see the angle of the board and speeds and distances. This day, I was riding my new Stubby from Fanatic. I can't actually believe the sections I was able to make and how well this board rode on this sort of wave."
In the end, Kai Bates rode his SUP on a wave for a total time of two minutes and 30 seconds.
