Deivid Silva has taken out the 2016 Quiksilver Pro Casablanca, in Morocco. Pauline Ado won the Roxy Pro Casablanca and claimed her fifth European title.
The Moroccan surf spot of Anfaplace Shopping Center has once again proved to be the perfect venue for a Qualifying Series (QS) event. This year, the final had rippable three-to-five-foot waves.
In the Men's ultimate showdown, Deivid Silva smashed French powerhouse Nelson Cloarec. The Brazilian charger rode nine waves and got a two-wave total of 18.46 points. Cloarec didn't find his rhythm and found himself in combination situation until the end of the heat.
The result might not have a significant impact on Silva's Dream Tour hopes, but it will certainly boost his confidence for the upcoming QS 10,000 event in Cascais.
"I felt really confident in this event because I trained really hard at home in a very similar wave, a long left in the rip like that. It was great to come here for the first time; Morocco is so different from everything I know," noted Deivid Silva.
On the women's side, Pauline Ado won her second QS contest of the season and raised World Surf League's European title after a convincing win over her fellow countrywoman Justine Dupont.
"My main goal was to keep building momentum and grab points again here, but I still had in mind that European title, especially since this season we had several events and a really high-level of surfing on tour. I love it here in Morocco. I hope this first event inspires a lot of Moroccan girls to get in the water and start surfing," concluded Ado.
