We’ve all been there: paddling out casually, perhaps chatting to someone next to you. Suddenly, everyone in the lineup starts scratching desperately for the horizon, which is looking darker than usual. “Outside!” someone might yell, as spectators whistle from the cliffs. Of course, most of the time, no matter how hard you paddle, you’re going to get worked at some point. That’s part of the fun.
