i had always heard the waves were good in Morocco. But after spending a season here, I can tell you that they’re great. Perhaps the most remarkable element to its greatness is the consistency—it’s insane. From late November to the middle of February it was smaller than head high only a few times.
Most swells that hit Europe are perfectly groomed by the many point breaks on the coast, including Anchor Point, Boilers, Killers and many, many more. The bigger the swell, the more options there are to surf. But one thing to consider while in Morocco is the tide. At high tide, many spots will be completely flat. Then, suddenly, it will be head high as the tide drops. At first, I thought I would be missing the fruits of El Niño back home in California, but I didn’t. Plus, my backhand has improved tremendously.
