On this day, December 30th three years ago, something very special happened. A kid from the slums of Brazil made a name for himself by dropping into a bomb at Pipeline, casual style and all, and getting spit out into glory. It was the wave that would win Ricardo Dos Santos the 2013 Wave of the Winter honors.
Earlier this year, Ricardo tragically died after being shot three times. But what better way of remembering that big-smiling, hard-charging Brazilian by one of his career high-points. And while he’s not here to celebrate that victory with us today, we’re sure he’s in the thoughts and prayers of his fans and friends…which he had A LOT of. Here’s to you, Ricardo.
