The Hawaiian Islands are the birthplace to some of the world’s greatest surfers of all time. From Duke Kahanamoku and Eddie Aikau, to Andy Irons and Bethany Hamilton, it isn’t a huge surprise to see on-going talent flooding out of Hawaii.
One year old, Kamapua’a, also known as ‘Kama the Surfing Pig’, certainly lives up to that Hawaiian reputation. Born on the island of Oahu, Kama began surfing at 3 months old with his owner, Kai Holt. Now one year later, the 160 pound pig is a well known local at beaches like Sandy’s and Makaha for his strategic ‘hang hooves’ maneuver, and ability to put a smile on anyone’s face.
Kama lives with Kai, and 17 fellow pig friends, turkeys, dogs, and sheep on their farm in Waimanalo, Hawaii. Now, Kama has a son named ‘Kama 2′ that has already began to start bodysurfing, getting used to the water and following the footsteps of his dad.
Get to know Kama the surfing pig, Kama 2, and his family, Kai and Braiden Holt, while hanging out on the North Shore of Oahu this winter.
