Adam Francis D'Esposito died earlier this month in Mexico, but authorities did not report his death despite campaigns to find him after his disappearance.
Popular giant wave surfer Adam Francis D'Esposito - known as Biff- was found dead by Mexican authorities nearly a month ago in Rosarito, near the U.S. border with San Diego.
Although he was intensely wanted from the beginning of September and his disappearance was public, the agents who found his body did not report anything about the discovery until several weeks later, according to Fox 5 San Diego. That news agency also reported that D'Esposito drowned, although the causes of his death were not clarified.

The surfer's sister, Briana D'Esposito confirmed the devastating news on her Facebook account. "It is with great sadness and deepest sorrow that we have confirmed the death of my brother, Adam Francis Kennedy D'Esposito, also known as Biff. The details of my brother's death are still being clarified.
"Our hearts are heavy as we accept the fact that he is no longer with us. She was a very charismatic person with a big heart, passionate personality and a deep love for surfing. She had a big heart for her little daughter and enjoyed spending a lot of time with her in her last months. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts," Briana wrote.
D'Esposito had traveled to Mexico on September 2. He lived in Carlsbad, California, where he spent most of his time. His idea was to visit the neighboring country to surf and visit his father. But since June 6, nothing more was known about him.
People magazine reported that in the last few days, according to the statement of the owner of a surf shop, D'Esposito acted as if someone was following him. However, it is not certain that something like this was happening.
His sisters told CBS 8 that Biff suffered from some form of mental illness. More specifically, it was bipolar. But in his environment everyone doubts that he drowned. He was an expert swimmer and had even survived a shark attack in 2012 in Teahupo'o, Tahiti.
"My brother is a big wave surfer and spent most of the last 20 years in Tahiti surfing some of the most dangerous waves in the world. It's very rare for many of us and many of his friends to drown," Mary D'Esposito, his sister, told NBC 7.
