NLand, North America's first artificial surf pool, opens October 7th, 2016, in Austin, USA.
The dream has become a reality for Doug Coors, the man who envisioned surfing in the heart of Texas, and 200 miles away from the Gulf of Mexico.
The world's second man-made surf lagoon is also the second installment by Wavegarden, the wave generating technology developed in the Basque Country by José Manuel Odriozola and Karin Frisch.
"As a surfer and an engineer, NLand has been a dream of mine for the past 20 years. We have had our share of challenges, but they are behind us, and I look forward to sharing our waves with the world," expressed Doug Coors, the founder of NLAnd.
For those who live far from the classic Texan surf breaks, NLand will deliver head-high, open face waves with a 35-second ride for advanced surfers (Reef), challenging rollers for intermediate riders (Inside), and whitewater ripples for beginners, and kids (Bay).
The inland surfing complex built a water treatment system that utilizes bio-filtration, permanent media filtration, ozone and chlorine to treat the water. The pool is entirely self-sustaining and uses 11 million gallons of rainwater captured locally.
The NLand surf park also features a surf shop, a surf training academy, and a locally-sourced scratch kitchen. The surf pool will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 11am to 8pm, and on Mondays from 2pm to 7pm.
