For a long time, Kelly Slater has been pushing surfboard design to places it’s never gone. In fact, he can probably be held partially responsible for a large portion of surfers in the ’90s riding equipment that was entirely wrong for them, but without his ideas and his ability, surfboard design would be in a different place than it is today.
Slater Designs is a forward-thinking company that has shapes that aren’t the norm. You may have seen one of their boards, the Sci-Fi, under Stu Kennedy’s feet when he beat Kelly Slater, which was ironic. Daniel Thomson is a man that knows surfboards. He shaped the Sci-Fi, and he did it with a brain that works a little differently than most.
