Australian
surfing legend Mick Fanning has penned an emotional letter to fellow
surfer and friend Julian Wilson following his near-death experience with
a shark.
Fanning,
a three-time world champion, narrowly escaped what could have been an
horrific attack while surfing at a competition in South Africa on
Sunday.
Alongside
a photograph of the two Aussie surfers embracing after his narrow
escape, Fanning has thanked Wilson, who broke down in tears during an
interview after the incident.
Fanning's mum Elizabeth Osborne said she would support her son whether he returned to the water or not
When
asked whether they had previously discussed the threat of sharks Ms
Osborne said they had not, but it had always been in the back of her
mind.
'I haven't spoken to him about sharks, it's certainly always been in my mind...and now it's became a reality.'
'I'm just so glad that Mick's okay.
'What a hero to fight that off, I was so proud of him,' she told the program.
