Although it might sound strange, the truth is that the largest city in Spain will have its own artificial wave park.The dream - named Wet Madrid - will be built near Feria de Madrid, the city's international trade fair. According to the initial plans, Wet Madrid is the result of a 10 million euro investment.
Up to 140 surfers will be able to share a 350-meter long and 180-meter wide artificial wave pool that will pump 60 waves per hour, ranging between 1.5 and 7.2 feet (0.5 and 2.2 meters). Each ride will last approximately 25 seconds.
Wet Madrid will also feature a 20,000-meter beach that is ready to welcome 5,000 people. There will be surf shops, coffee houses, surf schools, and other facilities. The entire project will occupy a total area of 100,000 square meters.
The surf pool is scheduled to open to the general public in 2016. Wet Madrid will install the Wavegarden technology, and it will be used by the Spanish Surfing Federation (Federación Española de Surf) as a technical center.
