Today the very sad news about the death of Brazilian surfer,
Ricardo Dos Santos reverberated throughout the surfing world. Veteran
lensman Peter ‘Joli’ Wilson watched Ricardo rise to stardom and captured
many of the iconic moments from his career. Joli spoke to Tracks earlier today and offered this tribute.
“I woke this morning to the very sad news that Ricardo dos Santos had passed away last night as a result of three gun shot wounds to his stomach received on Monday in what appears to be a senseless act of violence. Ricardo was an amazing tube rider and had won the Tahitian VZ Trials twice to get a start in the Billabong Pro Tahiti, winning the Andy Irons Inspirational award for his efforts in one of the events. He also took out Surfline’s 2012-2013 Wave of the Winter award for a wave at Pipeline. He’s going to be missed by surfers around the world. Rest In Peace my friend.”
