Half Moon Bay shines as the North Pacific delivers big waves, huge crowds, heavy beatings and more.

Matt Warshaw may have written the Encyclopaedia Of Surfing but after the month the big wave community has just enjoyed, he might make more money producing a Thesaurus of Charging, such has been the drain on the community's vocabulary for all things heavy water. Massive, XXL, oversized et al. just don't cover it.

After the European corner came alive at Punta Galea and Nazaré, it was Jaws' turn to step-up, and in one last vicious dissipation of low pressure energy it was Northern California's Mavericks who closed the chapter on one of the best month of monstrous surf the world will ever see, featuring a cast of favourites, and a couple of fresh faces along the way too.
