Although we are not officially in an El Nino, it sure feels like it. The first strong cold front of the season impacted the US East Coast last week. This brought cool to cold temperatures into the Deep South. The frontal low developed pretty quickly off of the NC coast, tapping into the warm Gulf Stream waters.
Although we did not get any great satellite passes through the storm, we did see satellite and buoy wind observations of 35 knots with evidence of higher 40-knot+ winds.
The initial swell on Monday had a lot of west in it. On Tuesday the more NNW directed swell moved in providing another day of solid swell for the island. The swell is still looking good today. Not a bad way to start off November! --Mike Watson
