Good lord, that was close. Check out the size of this bear as it sprints after a downhill mountain biker at the Malinô Brdo Bikepark in Ružomberok, Slovakia. We’re not sure who the cyclist is but the video was uploaded by Dušan Vinžík.
Slovakia apparently has a healthy bear population because of legal protections on the animal that date back to communist rule. The species are called brown bears but are more closely related to the North American grizzly. They’re frickin’ huge. Officials in the country estimate there are between 700-900 bears roaming the region, mostly in the Tatras.
We have no way of verifying the video above but it sure looks real. And there are apparently a lot of bears in the central European country.
