His name is Hawkeye HueyHawkeye Huey shoots for National Geographic and was recently listed among Rolling Stone’s Top 100 on Instagram; Hawkeye Huey is also five years old.
How great is that? The best part has to be that Hawkeye’s first “assignment” was to go to the desert with dad… to build blanket forts (which he now recommends to his father that they build out of wood). But what began as a father-son bonding trip became a re-introduction to a universally relatable but too-often-forgotten knee-high perspective that is ultimately about embracing the creativity and vision of children.

Basically, that re-introduction led to many more assignments that took Hawkeye on travels far and wide across this country…

…a journey that he and his father hoped to share with everyone else through a photobook they looked to raise money for by conducting a crowdfunding campaign. And having raised $47,189 by way of 874 backers, they will be doing just that.

So who is dad? Per Kickstarter: “Aaron Huey is a National Geographic Photographer (having shot 27 stories for NG publications), a Harper’s Magazine Contributing Artist, and a Stanford d.School 2015/16 Media Designer.  He is also a wearer of Gold Shoes, a Climber of Rocks, a Father, a Husband, and a Maker. Huey is widely known for his 3,349 mile, solo walk across America (with his dog Cosmo). The 2002 journey lasted 154 days. There was no media coverage. They walked everystep. Following the walk Huey took a 2 1/2 year hiatus from shooting photos to build an artist in residence program (Hueyhaus), from the ground up, on the Pecos River east of Santa Fe.”
